Glyndŵr University Sport
Glyndŵr University boasts one of North Wales' premier sporting venues.

The Sports Centre at Glyndŵr University has hosted several major international and domestic sporting events as well as a range of other conferences and events, and has been recently named as a pre-training camp for both the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

 

There is a wide range of facilities available at the sports centre and as a member of Glyndŵr University Alumni Association, you can benefit from discounted membership fees.

Fitness Suite

If you haven't already used the Fitness Suite, the light and airy facility can be found on the first floor of the Sports Centre on Plas Coch Campus. 

It has an aerobic area including bikes, treadmills, cross trainer and rowers as well as an area dedicated to resistance equipment including an Olympic bar and a selection of free weights.

Joining

To join please visit the Fitness Suite with your old student card or student number (for confirmation of your student number, please contact The Alumni Office in advance) where you will need to complete an application form and pay a joining fee of only £22.  You may also need to undertake a 20 minute induction which can be arranged in advance through contacting the Sport Centre on 01978 293275.

Classes

The fitness suite also hosts a number of fitness classes throughout the week:

Monday

  • 6:00pm - 7:00pm - Ju Jitsu
  • 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Step
  • 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Kick Boxing

Tuesday

  • 10:00am - 11:00 - Body Tone
  • 6:30pm - 7:30pm - Yoga

Wednesday

  • 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Kickboxing
  • 7:30pm - 8:30pm - Body Tone

Thursday

  • 6:00pm - 7:00pm - Fitness Pilates

Friday

  • 10:00am - 11:00am - Step

Class prices vary and some discounts are available for booking multiple classes in advance.

Team sports facilities

Alternatively, if you're looking for facilities to play team sports with friends or colleagues or are hosting a corporate or charity sporting event, members can also book indoor court facilities for a range of sports including badminton, basketball, netball and football.

Sports facilities

Additionally there are two outdoor flood-lit pitches - a sand-based pitch for football as well as the water-based hockey pitch which recently saw Wales' biggest international Hockey event - the Senior Men's EuroHockey Nations Trophy 2009.

  • Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 9.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9.00am - 7.00pm

Alumni prices for Fitness Suite

  • £22.00 one-off joining fee
    plus either
  • £2.15 per visit or
  • £11.00 a month for unlimited visits
