Current exhibitionFrank Bowling and Dennis de Caires: Paintings 28 February - 19 May 2012 Both artists are graduates of the Royal College of Art in London and their work is influenced by their early years in Guyana. Estelle Thompson, Research Professor in Fine Art at Glyndŵr University, said: “It is 22 years since Frank Bowling and Dennis de Caires showed together in an ambitious exhibition in 1989 at The Umana Yana Centre in Georgetown, Guyana, and this new exhibition in Wales affords us an opportunity to re-examine and celebrate their work again.”
Bowling and de Caires’s work is influenced by the Guyanese writer Wilson Harris and both share a love of British painting, which is evident in the collection of works which will be on display. Bowling was awarded an OBE in 2008 for his services to art and has had work exhibited in London, New York, Chicago and New Jersey, USA. De Caires, more than 20 years Bowling’s junior, lives and works in London and Barbados and has had work featured extensively in both locations. ‘Frank Bowling and Dennis de Caires: Paintings’ opens at the Oriel Sycharth Gallery on Tuesday 28 February 2012 with a private view from 5pm to 7pm. Both artists will give a brief introductory talk to the exhibition during the evening.
