Committed to supporting care leavers
Glyndŵr University is proud to have achieved the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark in 2007 for its commitment to helping young people in and leaving care in their academic endeavours and onto success. Going to university not only develops academic abilities, but should be about studying a subject you enjoy whilst meeting new people and having fun. So, if you think university might be for you, we would love to hear from you. Where do you go from here?In addition to providing a drop-in centre at the Students’ Guild, Glyndŵr University’s student services are located within the Edward Llwyd Centre along with the library, IT facilities, bookshop and Chapters café. The student service department can offer advice and guidance about routes into university, finances, study and personal support during and beyond your course of study. We offer opportunities throughout the year to attend open days, which are a really useful way of meeting staff and familiarising yourself with the environment as well as learning about the courses on offer through attending workshops and lectures. Who do you speak to?Beryl Dixon is Glyndŵr University’s Student Funding and Welfare Advisor. She is based in the Student Funding & Welfare Service in the Students' Guild and can advise you in any number of areas such as fees, funding, bursaries, scholarships, benefits, course changes and accommodation. Your financial entitlement and support package depends on your circumstances, and your Personal Advisor within your local authority should be able to let you know what these are. Details of your intention to go to university and what this includes should form part of your pathway plan, so make sure you discuss this at progression meetings. This information will need to be shared with Beryl should you wish to apply for any financial support from Glyndŵr University. As an identified care leaver, you will automatically be eligible for on campus accommodation, should you require it, throughout the year and for the duration of your course. If you would like to know more about anything you’ve read here, please do not hesitate to contact Beryl on 01978 293547 or email b.dixon@glyndwr.ac.uk |
