Glyndŵr University has extensive experience in delivering healthcare courses. These post-registration nursing courses can top up your study to degree level or, if you are already a graduate can be studied as a graduate certificate or diploma. Modules are both practical and theory-based and offer a means of continuing professional development appropriate to the needs of multi-disciplinary work.

These professional development programmes are ideal for those wishing to expand their general or specific clinical knowledge in relation to their area of healthcare practice.

  • The Specialist Community Public Health Nursing degrees lead to registration on Part III of the United Kingdom Nursing and Midwifery Council Register. Successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practice allows you to record your qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Successful completion of either course allows you to record the V100 Community Nurse Prescribing qualification

For practitioners without a graduate qualification, the BSc Health Studies provides the opportunity to study a range of clinically and professionally focused modules.

BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practice (Community Children’s Nursing)

BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practice (District Nursing)

BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practice (General Practice Nursing)

 

For practitioners wishing to record a qualification with the NMC as a District Nurse, Children’s Community Nurse or General Practice Nurse.

 

You will specialise in your chosen area of district nursing, general practice nursing or children’s community nursing by undertaking both generic professional and specialist modules which include community nurse prescribing.

Throughout the course your competence in practice will be assessed. The course will enable you to enhance your practice skills, leadership skills and professionalism. Students successfully completing this course may record their qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This programme is also offered as a Graduate Diploma for those already holding a bachelor degree.

 

The course is normally taken on a two year part time basis or on a modular basis over a maximum period of six years.  Both routes require theoretical and practical elements comprising study at Glyndŵr University and supervised practice time in clinical practice with a current sign off mentor. Applicants must hold current registration as a Nurse and educated to at least diploma level. They should either be employed in a community nursing role or be able to secure a placement and be willing to undertake enhanced criminal records disclosure.

 

Foundations of Community Practice

 

Students will normally undertake the Foundations of Community Practice module (30 credits) at the start of the modular route.   There may also be a number of places available for this module to be undertaken as an individual module. This may be of particular interest to nurses wishing to expand their understanding of community practice and can be accessed by nurses with less than two years experience. If candidates do not have access to a community placement we may be able to support you in this process.

BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting)

BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Occupational Health Nursing)

BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nursing)

For practitioners wishing to register a qualification with the NMC as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (health visiting or school nursing).

You will study the general principles of public health nursing practice and will also undertake specialist modules to include integrated community nurse prescribing in your chosen area of health visiting or school nursing. Throughout the course your competence in practice will be assessed. The course will enable you to enhance your practice skills, leadership skills and professionalism. Students successfully completing this course may register as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This programme will also be offered as Graduate Diploma for individuals already holding a bachelor degree (subject to validation April 2012).

The course can currently be taken on a full or two year part time basis. Both routes require theoretical and practical elements comprising study at Glyndŵr University and supervised practice time in clinical practice with a current sign off practice teacher. Applicants must hold current registration as a Nurse or Midwife and be educated to at least diploma level. They will be required to undertake enhanced criminal records disclosure.

BSc (Hons) Healthcare Leadership and Management

This part-time course is designed for health care professionals who are in, or aspiring to progress into, management roles at ward or team level.

The course provides you with a sound theoretical and research basis for leadership and management practice and incorporates practice based learning. You will carry out a substantial project showing how you have developed your leadership and management skills in practice. For those already holding an honours degree this course is also offered as a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.

BSc (Hons) Community Practice

This part-time course is designed for individuals practising in a community or primary care setting who wish to enhance their practice but do not wish to undertake a programme leading to a specialist practice qualification. The course is very flexible comprising a wide range of modules from which you can select those relevant to your own area of practice in the care of adults or children or in mental health practice. You may include a module leading to a professional award such as Independent Prescribing within your degree.
