BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching
This degree develops your ability to coach at all levels; from community to elite level. The skills you will be exploring and practising during the degree have been outlined by Sports Coach UK and the Welsh Assembly Government as being essential to increase the level and quality of sports coaches and will play a crucial part in the development of young people and their involvement in sport.
The sports coaching degree will equip you to fulfill what are seen as vital roles within local communities and national organisations, with regards to the promotion of sport and active and healthy lifestyles, therefore providing a valuable link to schools, colleges, clubs and communities.

Course content
BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching
A feature of the course will be the practical application of theory to realistic coaching environments and also to develop links to the coaching industry at all levels from community to elite coaches and coach educators. In addition to this, and recognising that coaching is fundamentally a social process involving human interaction, the degree will provide opportunities to study coaching in a variety of contexts and social settings, as well as in a wide range of activities.
The content of the degree course will draw on key coaching principles, including an examination of coaching practice and coaching process. In addition sports science principles will relate psychology and physiology to coaching and performance, while sociological aspects of sport and sports coaching and performance analysis at both a technical and tactical level will be examined.
Whatever combination you choose, you will graduate with a diverse range of skills, knowledge and experiences which are in high demand by the sport coaching industry.
During the course you will cover performance analysis, sports psychology and sociology, coaching sporting elites, sports physiology and coaching procedures and practices. As you progress through the course you will be able to select modules that reflect your interests.

Career opportunities
The degree is aimed at students who specifically want to pursue a career within sports coaching, which includes employment by a local authority, a sport governing body or within the education sector. Depending on your option choices you will also gain skills to pursue a career within the armed forces as a PTI, sports coach educator or sports development (coaching focus). You could also choose to progress on to a Postgraduate Certificate of Education or a masters course.
Assessment
A wide range of assessment methods will be used to test your knowledge and understanding. This includes essays, portfolios, practical coaching sessions, reports, presentations, online discussions and case study evaluations. You will be assessed on your ability to analyse coaching activities, use specialist video software, undertake lab-based work and conduct independent research. You will be expected to complete a dissertation as part of your final assessment.

Entry requirements and applying
The academic requirements for the Sports Coaching degree are for at least 260 points. Coaching experience would be an advantage.
Before you are offered an unconditional place you will be required to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form and pay the appropriate fee, so that a check can be made on your suitability for working with children and vulnerable adults.
