Our business and management students come from truly wide and varied backgrounds, ranging from school-leavers to mature business managers, with a cultural mix that provides both national and international perspectives.
Students are attracted by the diverse level and range of subject areas, which provide programmes of study across a range of degrees, professional programmes, and postgraduate options through to doctoral level study. Staff have an enviable reputation for their friendly and supportive nature.
The emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of the programmes, and in particular on improving the employability and entrepreneurship of students.
Working with partners around the world
The university has over the years established a number of important professional and international links. These include links with Georgetown University in the United States as well as institutions in Austria, Russia, Germany, Finland and China. These links not only enhance the benefits of cultural diversity but also allow the exchange of staff and students, providing a stimulating and varied environment in which to study.
Professional links include those with organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) as well as a wide range of local and national businesses and public sector organisations. These links not only ensure that the curriculum is kept up-to-date and relevant to today’s business needs but also provide useful career opportunities for students successfully completing their programmes.
Supporting you to get the job you want
We have an excellent employability record with 90% of students going into full-time employment or further study within six months of graduating. One of the reasons for this is that all undergraduate students take career development modules to support them in their career planning. In addition, the Graduate Young Enterprise Scheme provides students with the opportunity of running their own business, thereby gaining first-hand experience of balancing all the factors that make up a successful business venture.
