Education

Our dedicated education team has built its reputation since 1946 on a long tradition of education and training in Wrexham.

Since then we have gained an international and local profile and developed a wide network of partners who support Glyndŵr University’s extensive range of programmes, which extends beyond traditional education to courses in education and training for teachers in the post-compulsory sector, playwork, and work with children and families.

Degree courses offered include BA (Hons) Education and Childhood Studies, BA (Hons) Play and Playwork, Foundation Degree Early Childhood Care and Education, Foundation Degree Learning Support, and Foundation Degree in the Learning and Development of Babies and Young Children. Courses also include PGCE/Cert Ed Post-compulsory Education and Training (PcET), BA (Hons) Post-compulsory Education and Training (a top-up degree for those with Cert Ed PcET who do not hold a first degree), Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development in Higher Education, and MA Education.

All our programmes are accredited at graduate, postgraduate or Master’s level. Glyndŵr University continues to expand and enhance its portfolio of continued professional development (CPD) courses in the field of education and community.

Glyndŵr University has played a leading role in the establishment of Wrexham’s Children’s University, the first of its kind in Wales.

The University’s own science discovery centre, Techniquest Glyndŵr, provides an excellent facility for students to gain valuable experience of working with children and finding new and exciting ways of delivering the curriculum.

Glyndŵr University supports the Centre for Pedagogical Research and Scholarship, which promotes the culture of research and scholarship across the university. The Centre’s research concentrates on developing models of professional practice which encourage learning and enhance the student’s learning experience.

*In 2009 the National Assembly Government announced a 50% reduction in primary teaching training places across Wales and has instructed Glyndŵr University to cease to provide ITET places on its current three-year BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS. The last full intake of trainee teachers were taken on in September 2009 and successful students will graduate in 2012.
