Activities

Weekend activities

The range of modules can be broad and varied, reflecting students' needs and building on their strengths.

Holiday activities

These will be run at bases located within the community and provide workshops/classes on a variety of subjects that aim to increase the students' skills and knowledge.

Distance learning

This strand is designed to be work that the student completes at home. The students are given a series of subject-based tasks that are linked by a common theme and are time-limited. They provide a range of materials that are based around the curriculum taught in schools but which expand its dimensions.

Extra-curricular activities

These are modules that take place during the lunch break and which commence at the end of the school day.

Modules

A module may be thought of as a designed learning unit. All modules will be credit rated, and individuals will be awarded one credit for each hour of engagement. Feedback within the pilot scheme has guided us to set a minimum of 5 learning hours and a maximum of 20 hours.

1 x credit = 1 x hour.

As a starting point we ask that tutors assess existing activities - i.e. those taking place outside normal school hours - and register these as modules. Why not take advantage of, and be rewarded for, the efforts you and your students are already making?

• Get your efforts recognised: submit all out-of-hours activities as modules.
• Get your children recognised: let them be rewarded for their effort, time, and contribution to the school and community.
• Get your school recognised: the Children and Young People’s University Cymru directory will list all of your Out of School Hours Learning / Children and Young People’s University Cymru activities.
• Get your organisation's efforts recognised.

Directory

All submitted modules are entered into a comprehensive directory for circulation amongst all activity centres. This details module titles, contact names and addresses, and learning outcomes. Activity centres can see what other centres are doing and share ideas if required.
