Karen Rhys Jones

Karen Rhys Jones is Subject Leader for Physical Education, having taken up the position in January 2004.

Her previous post as a Progress Manager at Ysgol Clywedog followed 10 years at Ysgol Bryn Offa where she was Head of Girls’ Physical Education and Head of Year.

This followed her initial teaching years in Epping, Essex.

She has had extensive extra-curricular involvement in netball, dance, cross country, athletics, tennis, rounders, aerobics and hockey.

Karen has led numerous ski courses and accompanied educational visits to China, Canada, Israel, Germany, Cyprus, France and Outdoor Education centres.

She was involved as a coach / team manager at county level in netball and athletics, and at North East Wales level for netball.

Her particular area of interest is in Dance, coordinating and choreographing 10 dance shows.

Being a Physical Education specialist she is more than aware of the standards of, and pressures surrounding, Primary Physical Education.

Her MEd dissertation on ‘Why girls drop out of Physical Education’ arose out of a genuine interest and concern.

She relishes the opportunity to guide new members into the teaching profession with a sympathetic view of this important subject.

Karen is about to embark on her PhD within the field of Physical Education.
