Psychology coursesBSc (Hons) PsychologyFull-time 3 years / part-time 6 years Psychology is one of those rare subjects that affects every individual in many aspects of their lives because it is all about people and their behaviour. But it is a science built on rigorous methodology that produces reliable evidence. This programme is designed to guide students through a maturing process that begins at a modest pace and ends by opening up conceptual and career possibilities that they may not have previously considered. This we will achieve by starting in Level 4 with an exploration of the ways in which psychology impacts and impinges on everyday life. Having facilitated a grasp of the variety of approaches and philosophies that underpin the profession, we will move on, through Levels 5 and 6, to a breadth and depth of theory that expands the individual’s knowledge and understanding. All levels of the programme are underpinned with the theme of integrating theory, research, and practice. The curriculum has been designed to align with the requirements of The British Psychological Society as the recognised professional body associated with the discipline. The QAA subject benchmark for Psychology has also informed the curriculum. Having been designed in this way, the programme is comparable to other Psychology Honours degrees in the UK. This programme is accredited by the BPS as conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the Society with the Graduate Basis for Registration provided the minimum standard of qualification of second class honours is achieved. This is a first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. The graduate from this programme will be prepared for postgraduate study, hold the attributes expected of all graduates that enable them to make a positive contribution to a range of occupations, and be equipped to identify how psychological services are likely to benefit them in the course of their life. The extensive range of generic skills embedded within psychology programmes make them widely accepted as providing an excellent preparation for many careers. In addition to subject skills and knowledge, graduates also develop skills in communication, numeracy, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, computing, independent learning and many others, all of which are highly valued by employers. In summary, we will strive to assist students to become well-rounded individuals with some specialist knowledge of psychology, and lifelong learners who are capable of directing their own lives effectively.
