We are an active and vibrant subject area, with staff members that are enthusiastic, experienced, student-centred and active researchers. We offer fantastic opportunities for students; not only will you increase your academic knowledge of sport and exercise sciences, sports coaching, sport development or equestrian psychology, but you will also be given a range of opportunities to develop experience in the workplace over your course of study – vital for anyone seeking employment within the sector on graduation.

Sport and exercise sciences conference features international experts
LEADING figures from the world of sport and exercise sciences visited Glyndŵr University for a successful student conference.
The university’s ninth annual Sport and Exercise Sciences Conference featured international sports nutritionist Professor Don MacLaren of Liverpool John Moores University.
Also speaking at the event was Adam Owen, an alumnus of Glyndŵr University’s predecessor institute NEWI and now head of sports science at Rangers FC.

Having only started his contract at Glyndwr University in November, Phil Johnson, Acting Programme Leader for Equestrian Psychology (and clinical sport psychologist) was asked by the BBC to comment upon the recent suicide of German National Goalkeeper Robert Enke.

Glyndŵr University graduate trains 6 Nations stars
Sport & Exercise Sciences graduate from Glyndŵr University Ryan Chambers revealed how his work behind the scenes helped to keep the Welsh rugby union team in shape for the 2009 6 Nations Championships. Ryan revealed that “as a strength and conditioning intern, my role was to assist players with their weight training sessions by providing appropriate warm-up and cool-down activities.”

A number of volunteer Glyndŵr University students have been commended for their part in getting Denbighshire’s schoolchildren active by the F-Factor Project Manager, Richard Griffin. Rich explained that “the testing days have been an overwhelming success, thanks to the professional support of Glyndŵr University’s Sport and Exercise Science students.”

Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) at Glyndŵr University recently attracted the services of internationally acclaimed sport psychologist Prof. Dave Collins to assist their research activities. Professor Collins hit the ground running and has already helped SES achieve a number of publications despite only starting in January.

Students rate Glyndŵr University Sport & Exercise Sciences 2nd best in UK for teaching quality
Based on student satisfaction ratings, Sport & Exercise Sciences (SES) at Glyndŵr University were rated as the second best in teaching and top of the Guardian’s University Guide 2010 for assessment feedback. Climbing 34 places, SES jumped from 51st to 17th in the Sports Science table, leapfrogging a number of local rival universities.

SES come out tops - nationally!
Sport and Exercise Sciences is a great place to study. And that’s official! We have just received the results from the National Student Survey (NSS) which place us fifth nationally. The NSS, which is targeted mostly at final year undergraduates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, asks students to comment on everything from teaching to personal development.
